Beacon is an all new NEWS app. Beacon was designed to improve functionality and provide easy access to users. Beacon provides users with large buttons to help with easy navigation, a 'Change location' option which allows the user to customize their viewing experience, and a carousel of top articles for convenience and easy access.
The Project
Beacon was a design created during my Typography course. The initial assignment was to either redesign an existing news app or create a new one that improves user experience. I chose to create my own app which I named Beacon.
My Design
As I was researching other news apps I found that a lot were chocked full of information in small areas and it was difficult to navigate. Being a visual person, I decided that including more imagery and symbolism into my design might create a better user experience especially for those who are visual learners. This way the user will get a sense of what the article is about without having to read the headline. This is turn provides faster navigation to specific articles the user wants to read.
