Sweet Jewels

Sweet Jewels is a branded packaging design for handcrafted chocolate. Each box is handcrafted with the utmost of care and engraved with a symbol of the cocoa tree. The ‘sweet’ idea behind this design was to make a multi-functional chocolate box. Once all the sweets are eaten the user can clean the box and start using it to store their jewelry.

The Project

The project was the third project I completed for my Package Design course. We were to choose an item to research and design a package. I could not choose between chocolate and jewelry so I decided to do both. The box is first and foremost a chocolate box but the user has the added benefit of keeping it and using it as a jewelry box.

My Design

The goal of this design was to provide the user with something that could have a second life. So much material is wasted on packaging, that is used once and thrown away, why not make something that lasts.

The project started out by picking the material. I chose wood because of its durability. It can easily hold the chocolates and all the jewelry there after. It was also chosen for stylistic purposes. A wooden jewelry box is much more appealing to a user than one made out of cardboard or paper.

The simplicity of the box was intentional. I wanted the user to be able to slide the lid off with ease and grab whatever they need without the struggle of opening a clasp or lock as seen on other jewelry boxes. It is also convenient for grabbing a chocolate whenever you get that craving. The box was covered with a stain espresso finish and engraved with a cocoa tree which reinforced the 100% pure chocolate and sophistication that the brand entails.
